Given that AM has published a poster child of this fallacy today, I have added to the “Appeal to Authority” logical fallacy to our section on “The Use of Logic”.
Enjoy.

After reading Ken’s “articleâ€, I was left with the thought.
It is easier to drop a bomb on an enemy you never knew or have ever met… than to meet them face to face and realize they are human.
We can kill a “Jap” or “rag head” or whatever easier as we dehumanize them by labels… than to actually meet the person that Jesus died for out of obedience of God’s love for us.
“I hadn’t felt led to discuss the following in public until recently but it would seem that you must not have been aware of this information, which also relates to my level of accountability and “credentials†as one called by Jesus to be one of His pastor-teachers. Apprising Ministries is actually a fully integrated auxiliary of my local church Connecticut River Baptist Church (SBC).”
It seems Ken likes to make his ministry sound as BIG as possible… I mean how many people actually go to his church now? Plus, a couple of guys in Australia he helps now and then… sounds HUGE!
Shoot, I have people in Africa, a lady who does orphanages in Haiti, an official translator in Romania (who wants to translate my “books” and other writings) as well as many other places across the country that seek me out for questions and counsel. Yet, I do not think that as “a fully integrated auxiliary” of my ministry… whatever that means!?!?!
So he has a website that he writes potshot articles about others he cares not to meet… and has a small “house church” and considers his own denomination the SBC an apostate denomination… but man if you have to use it to bolster your authority he leans on those apostates heavily!
I had to (sadly) laugh as Ken stated this…
“I encourage you to test me and what I teach by Scripture. If it is not line with the Bible throw it out; but if it is in line with Holy Scripture then obey God.â€
I think that the fact his church has almost died and is now only a handful of people seems to show that many did this and they left to obey God.
I think that consistent to much that happens here. Ken tries to tell us of his grand and exalted calling of “pastor/teacher†to the whole world and when we point out his error on some thing he will not listen as he is the final authority on all things.
Now how many people write here… and how many of you are “pastor/teachers”?
I mean if that is the way we judge “credentials†I might point out Ken is “self educated” (as i am myself, so not a critique) yet, how many of the writers here are well educated?
I mean if we are to show credibilty by our “credentials” my gut feeling is that this site beats out AP on the “credentials” war… LOL!
Sad really,
Be blessed,

I just love the “set up a softball e-mail” post so you can hit it out the ball park. If I read it correctly he pieced several e-mails together and the whole thing he conveniently said was as his friend Mike Corley had done. Let me share an e-mail with all of you here:
Dear Rick,
I have never read such authoritative and insightful articles as those that come from your anointed pen. Your writings have changed whole cities where I live, and I use your writings as my devotional material.
After reading your treatises, Rick, I no longer find any food in Spurgeon. Keep writing because my entire Spiritual life depends upon it.
Signed,
Jody
Dear Jody,
As you now know I am a humble but powerfully anointed blogmaster whose only will in life is to glorify God. I am accountable directly to God and all the accolades you wrote go to Him. He has allowed me to answer your e-mail, but do not contact me directly again.
Keep reading and benefiting from my offerings, everything else is dung unless I endorse it.
Rick

“Dear Abby….”
Oh. Wait.

Now, here is a composite of those that write to me from those that follow John MacArthur and try to convert me.
iggy,
What matters is God’s Word, not your opinion. You are a liar for stating Jesus is THE TRUTH for the bible states THY WORD IS TRUTH… so that means GOD’S WORD IS TRUTH… Jesus only taught truth as truth is objective and unmovable.
You need to read more systematic theology so you will not be so pompous. Do you sit around and just make things up? You are going to hell and cannot be saved as you have a link to Brian McLaren on your blog. Your association with the people in your “people that inspire me” section shows you have a lack of discernment. (Oh, Rick Frueh… that would now include people like you)
You cannot pick and choose what you believe. You stated you do not believe God’s word is Truth. You use propositional truth to try to tell me that we are not saved by propositional truth. You state that man cannot rationally think and understand the bible to be saved and are a dishonest liar.
You will start believing in hell when you feel the heat! You sodomite lover! How dare you defend sodomites, don’t you know that they are going to hell! I bet you do not think sodomy is a sin!
One last note. You said that you did not say there is no truth. Without realizing it you have. All truth other than God Himself can be formulated in declarative sentences. Thus all truth is propositional. You have down played truth a lot. Do you want me to quote you more? I did not make these sentences up?
Why couldn’t Iggy, just take instruction and repent?
This is another reason a guy like Iggy should never be allowed to teach anywhere that the Scripture is respected.
Iggy, don’t accuse me of being your brother. You push Brian McLaren and then try to call yourself a Christian. That is lying.
Yours in Jesus Christ,
A. MacArthruite
And so on… and these people think they will “save me”….
Really for the most part I have just stopped responding to most, unless they are a bit more respectful like this guy… This is one of the nicer ones!
I disagree with your statement that man is born innocent. The Scriptures do not teach that, do they? Job 15:14; Job 25:4; Ps 51:5; Rom 5:12;Also, you said, ” I think man without God can make a moral choice” According to whose standard? Your’s? I think its irrelevant! Lets talk about what God thinks, not Iggy. God is not interested in morality (according to man) He is interested in righteousness (obedience)! Rom 6:16; I John 2:29; 2 Cor 5:21;Lets keep the main thing, the main thing. Dave
BTW… I think God is interested in morality out of righteousness…
But I did answer more nicely that I should have to this person… oh… he sometimes comments here!
Be Blessed,
iggy
