On Commenting
Please see this update to Commenting Policy, as well.
Anyone may comment on articles posted to this site, should they so desire. In order to cut down on spamming and anony-posting, you must register with the site, and your first comment has to be manually moderated, after which all subsequent posts will be approved. No, it’s not 100% foolproof, but it cuts out enough nuicances to be of practical use.
With that said, we do retain the discression to delete posts which contain offensive language/vulgarity, outright slander, or systematic patterns of abusing other commenters without adding to the discussion. Also, Julie Neidlinger from Lone Prairie Art Works has an interesting set of qualifications to consider when posting, that we are borrowing and modifying for usage here, as well.
The Right to Remain Silent
You have the right to remain silent. You don’t have to respond to everything we ever write, whether you like it or not. We encourage you to exercise this right, particularly if you are a moron. This is our blog, and that is why we reserve the right to turn comments off or delete those we wish to delete. If you’re not sure what you’re about to comment or say is appropriate, you can’t spell all the words correctly, you think you’ll come off sounding philosophical or you think what you want to say will make you The Man, trust me. Just shut up.
We We Might Not Take You Seriously
- We might not take you seriously if you say you want intellectual debate and then follow it with insults.
- We might not take you seriously if you post random verses (particularly in King James English) and don’t explain your exegesis from said verses. In fact, unless you believe the 1611 KJV is the only legitimate translation (in which case we probably won’t take you seriously - “after all, it was good enough for the apostle Paul, so it should be good enough for us…”, as the argument goes…), we would greatly appreciate using a translation which utilizes contemporary English, there are a number of translations to choose from which eschew ‘thee’ and ‘thou’ and the like.
- We might not take you seriously if you use no capital letters, ALL CAPS, random (or no) punctuation, long rambling posts with no paragraphs, enumberous misspleings, creative syntax, etc. While we, ourselves, are not mistake-free, and we extend grace to others in our same situation, abuse of this grace to an extreme may lead us to Not Take You Seriously (just saying).
- We might not take you seriously if you play ‘pin-the-tail-on-the-Anti-Christ’, compare church leaders to Hitler/Stalin/Mao/etc., or engage in tinfoil hat conspiracies.
- We might not take you seriously if you make voluminous accusations and label everyone you disagree with as an apostate, and then refuse to answer questions posed to you, choosing, instead, to insult the questioners, question their salvation, sanctimoniously pull rank (”I’m a pastor and you’re not”), all the while ignoring (or misrepresenting) the question asked of you. There is a site for folks just like you, whose URL is very similar to this site’s.
- We might not take you seriously if you abuse logical fallicies, like the straw man, proof by assertion, contextomy, ad hominem attacks, and false dichotomy.
Commenting Philosophy
Deleting or editing comments inevitably leads into the You Fascist Pig battle, in which a person whose comment has been edited or deleted starts in with one of the following arguments, either by stupidly trying to leave another comment or through direct email to us:
1. You fascist pig.
2. What, you can’t handle hearing another side of the argument? Are your own arguments that weak? You fascist pig.
3. Some freedom of speech. You conservative right-wingers/liberal EC-ers/etc. can’t take anyone disagreeing with you. You fascist pig.
4. I thought this country was built on free speech. I thought both sides should be heard. You fascist pig.
5. (whirring sound in background as back peddling commences) I was just trying to give you a chance to solidify your arguments. Don’t you want your readers to hear both sides of the story, or are only interested in bias? (you fascist pig)
That being said, all comments are welcome, except those that are crude, vulgar and laced with obscenities or racial slurs. Just keep in mind that we reserve the right to delete comments that are in poor taste as defined here. We also do not accept anonymous comments. If you can’t put your name to it, come back when you’ve grown a spine and then comment.

you guys don’t make sense. mocking, jeering, judging and correcting someone else and picking apart their website doesn’t seem like what Jesus would do. if these people you’re mocking are enemies, aren’t you supposed to love them and do good to those who aren’t kind to you? if this person you’re spending so much time criticizing and making fun of is wrong, why don’t you show them how it’s supposed to be? if your site ends up meaner than theirs, what have you accomplished? you appear to be hypocrites. patrick lane deletes any email that defends slice. explain that. he mocks and jeers at somebody for censoring comments and he won’t allow one kind word to be said about the original slice. that is sad, man. you need to delete this site and go about building the kingdom of god the way it should be done instead of tearing someone else down. you’re just as bad as they are. all that you have on this site is negative. slice used to have sermons, hymns, devotionals, you have nothing but crap about other people. fix yourselves before you complain about others.

Trey,
1) We are not at all affiliated with Patrick Lane.
95% of the articles on this site are merely links to other blogs, which have a band of interest beyond Slice, and they do more than complain about others…
2) To date, we have not deleted any posts, other than when it was duplicate or attached to a page that said comments would be deleted once their viewpoint was integrated into the post in question. We have no plans on deleting posts, unless the violate the guidelines above (which are REALLY broad, mind you).
3) We will not selectively keep/delete comment posts to give a false appearance of ‘proof by assertion’, as Slice used to do.
4) The purpose of this site is not (and was not) to mock, parody or satirize Slice - it was to provide a counterpoint and collection point to the aspects of that site that crossed the line of Christian charity and decency. It was to provide a platform for those banned by Slice for nothing more than disagreeing with them. And, lastly, it was to provide a mirror that perhaps a writer or two from Slice might look into and have a realization that yes, while love without truth is not really love, truth without love is abusive and is not loving of God, either.
5) At this time, I do not plan on pulling down this site, but, instead, we may provide a source of commentary on both the good and bad of the ‘new’ and ‘improved’ (still yet to be seen) Slice.
6) As for building the Kingdom, I am glad that you use a language that suggests you understand that the Kingdom begins temporally and extends to eternity. This, though, is decidedly NOT the view of at least one Slice writer, which is why we remain. If you were part of a crew building a building, and you noticed another crew on the other side of the building ripping out bricks and knocking out walls, would you do nothing? I would hope not, as we would not either.
6) We ARE NOT affiliated with Patrick’s site, nor do we have any input there (nor he here). We are not a parody, satirization or mocumentary of Slice.
7) My blog, Fishing the Abyss, is primarily about teaching, devotions and thoughts on modern Christianity, along with some ecclectic stuff. If the ‘new’ Slice is more positive than it has been in the past, dropping its tone into the realm of Christian charity, this site won’t be needed. If not, then I will try to provide a forum for the wheat as well as the chaff…
Thank you for your input, though, and if you would like to discuss specifics, feel free.
Also, just as a note - if this thread really wanders off topic of ‘Commenting’ - since it is a ‘page’ and not a ‘post’ - I may need to move these comments to a post in fixed format and lock comments here - I won’t delete them outright though…
Grace and peace,
Chris

Amy,
Yes i am saying;”Are you saying that emptying oneself to let “whatever†in as those i know do who practice TM or other styles of meditation†has no relation to “chanting “ohhhhm†to get into some altered state of consciousness is not “christian?â€
(Or am I misunderstanding you?)”
The BIG difference is that a Christian is sealed by the Holy Spirit… we have been bought and paid for… we are not our own…. we are a NEW CREATION… so what we do is “in Christ”.
many have really bad theology on this topic… but I recommend Maj Ian Thomas as one great source… or read Classic Christianity by Bob George to see what it means to be “in Christ”.
If we are in Christ if is for eternity… and if we are saved here it is for eternity… that is the danger when Ken states things like “iggy serves another God” or that i am not saved… that is presumption on his part to know my motives and even worse know the eternal destiny of another… I mean does Ken have the Lamb’s Book of Life on his coffee table at home… he acts like he does as he judges and condemns or worse… the claims he has some special “inside” with God… he is not different than the bottom line in the “word of Faith movement”.
Ken has some really bad theology that justifies condemnation and hate toward his brothers in Christ… even a superficial reading of 1, 2 3, John should clear that up…
But I have seen the twisting of Scripture to justify their own view and infuse it into scripture…in stead of letting God’s Word enter and change them…
Blessings,
iggy

Though I’ve recently been told I am a snob for my extensive comments policy, I never bothered to say that I appreciate your “tweaking” of it to fit this site. I’ve linked to your logic page from my comments page, so the sharing continues.

Looks like a typo.
I just wanted to let you know that I tried to look up the English translation of the Latin phrase on your Site and found that the last word seems to be misspelled.
On the Web, It’s spelled “custodes” not “custodies”.
God Bless.
