Here is our attempt at a glossary of terms which often get tossed about here at CRN.Info. We will try to update it and add to it now and then, and (if second grade English doesn’t escape us) keep it alphabetically ordered. Some, but not all, of the definitions used are touch-in-cheek as they reflect how the terms are used by “Online Discernment Ministries” (ODM).  These are denoted with an asterisk (*)

Another Gospel: A systematic theology (e.g., Calvinism, Open Theism, etc.) that has been elevated to the level of scripture, whether in word or in practice.

*Apostate Church of Rome: The Roman Catholic Church

Drive-by (or Drive-by Comment): A comment (usually without follow-up) that does not add to the discussion and is often disconnected from the actual topic at hand.

*Ecumenical Church of Deceit: Any ministry which crosses denominational boundaries - particularly if it involves liberals or Catholics

*Emergent: Anything new we disagree with…

Externals-Focused Church: Individuals or ministries whose yardstick of biblical purity is attached to ‘externals’ - ontologically neutral areas such as dress, music, place of worship, etc.

*”Flattered that the Lord has seen fit…” - “I am a source for Wikipedia“

*”I am done here”: - I don’t like where this is going

*”I hope that helps” - A condescending phrase

Kingdom of God: Communities of people where things are as God would have them be - imperfect now, moving toward future perfection upon Christ’s return; Jesus’ primary sermon topic.

*Lead Guitarist Pastor - a derisive term to belittle one’s position

Miss-ive: Usually slanderous articles written by Ken Silva

*New Breed New Evangelical - Nebulous insult for anyone who does not practice 17th Century-style Christianity.

ODM: Online Discernment Ministry (Coined by our own Joe Martino)

*Postmodern - Someone who questions “Reformed” Theology.

*Purpose Driven Pope - A direct smear on Rick Warren

QFT: Quoted For Truth

*Semi-Pelagian - Not a Calvinist

*”Studied at the feet of…” - Listened to a person’s lectures on tape, years after that person’s death. (eg. Ken Silva: “I studied at the feet of Dr. Walter Martin, and…”)

Systemic Theology: Theology that poisons the body (coined by Chris, from this post’s comments) if applied too vigorously.

    First comment!

This is hysterical. Way to go!!

    This is great!

    Now, to nitpick:
    1. There’s a bold tag open somewhere.
    2. Schleuterize needs a new line.

I can’t believe you did all of this and then I nitpicked. This is a great tool. Seriously. All hilarity aside. I expect it will grow and grow!

    Sadly.

(WT) Watchdoggie Term - used to delineate which terms/phrases were created by blogs called “watchdoggies”

I’m going to use the shortened “WT” form.

Lead guitar Pastor - a derisive term to belittle one’s position
Purpose Driven Pope - A direct smear on Rick Warren
I hope that helps - A condescending phrase
I agree with Ingrid - a redundant phrase already assumed
    I am not a Calvinist - a creative deception
I am done here - I don’t like where this is going

  4. Rick Frueh Says:

Semi-pelagian - everyone who is not a Calvinist
He’s my mentor - I read his books
    urinate - to disagree with
defecate - to really disagree with
    regurgitate - to speak
The Lord be praised - I was on the radio

We must add a few from us though…

    QTF = Quoted for Truth
Drive by commenting = one comment that neither adds not takes away from the dialogue.

And I would love to see:

Pastor/Teacher = anyone who credential drops to bolster any argument they are making regardless of inanity.

  6. Julie Says:

    Rick, you’re killing me.

    Too funny.

    Stop.

  7. Joe C Says:

“It seemed good in the Lord” - I feel like crushing another Christian under my boot in the following sentences.

“New Breed New Evangelical” - Nebulous insult for anyone who does not practice 17th century-style Christianity.

“Postmodern” - Someone who questions Reformed Theology

    LOL how are those?

    Joe

    Just FYI,

    I *think* it’s spelled “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes“–not “…custodies”.

Wouldn’t want anyone to be accused of being sloppy in quoting the dead guys.
