A couple of weeks ago, and old friend of mine introduced me to a YouTube fad of “literal videos”, which has given me a good number of laughs, whether it was looking back at the cheesiness of the 60’s

Or the 80’s

As I’ve thought about this on and off (honestly far more off than on) since then, I’ve thought of them as potentially a metaphor for how any approach to Scripture when over-applied – be it literalism, intellectualism, historicism, philosiphism, etc. – tends to sanitize it and take the impact of the story, itself, away.

The one literal narrative is the death, burial, and resurrection of the Incarnate God. It must be recieved literally by faith. The reason it must be by faith is that it absolutely makes no sense on any level, and it is fully at odds with our intellect.

The entire story and its suggested implications is either a colossal mystery or the cruelest of hoaxes. And the most profound aspect of its essence is that it can be, it must be, received in a childlike simplicity. And there are many edifying unravellings about the gospel that take some deeper understanding, however when all is said and done the eternal truth is that God died for me so I could live with Him forever.

These four words – “God died for me” – are infinitely deeper than any human can ever imagine.

It’s not quite as “good”/”literal” as the others, but Creed’s With Arms Wide Open is pretty funny, too…

These made my DAY. Oh. My. Goodness. I think my favorites were the “Separate Ways” and “Penny Lane” videos . . . I died. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you . . . :D

Total Eclipse…that was funny.

I’ve never seen the real version…but if that fake version is indeed a parody then it is one creepy video.

Laughing.

Thanks for the humor.
