I got an audio cassette in the mail the other day. It was unmarked, the envelope had no return address, and the postmark was illegible. As best I can tell, it’s from a church service. It appears to be a re-working of Fanny Crosby’s “Rescue the Perishing“.
I had to listen to it a few times to pick up all the lyrics. I’ll reproduce them here for you.
If anyone knows anything more about this recording, let me know.
Point out the perishing, notice the dying,
Snark at them — how pithy — they won’t get on board.
Tsk o’er the erring one, trample the fallen,
Call it a ministry, it’s good in the Lord.Refrain
Point out the perishing, notice the dying,
You don’t think like I do; you’re going to hell.Since they have slighted Him, their fate is sealed.
It’s just too late for God to intervene.
Deride them constantly, use lots of quote marks.
They’re dead already; it’s not being mean.Refrain
Point out the perishing, notice the dying,
You don’t think like I do; you’re going to hell.Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that you can divine;
You know their deepest thoughts, God told them to you.
Be sure to scoff if someone says “Be kind”.Refrain
Point out the perishing, notice the dying,
You don’t think like I do; you’re going to hell.Point out the perishing, God called you to it.
Strength for your blogging the Lord will provide;
But He’s a little short with the finances
Ask for donations while you’re being snide.Refrain
Point out the perishing, notice the dying,
You don’t think like I do; you’re going to hell.
Point out the perishing, notice the dying,
My God’s a wrathful God; you all are screwed.

Nice…
thanks

That is messed up.
what do you mean, Thurstin?
nc – I did not get it. Why was her name linked here?
because the song is the theme song for her ministry.
That is what I thought. I’m an old man, I get confused by the obtuse creativity of someone like you.
A man sees ten cars lined up in front of him. All are empty and have no gas, so the man fills one car up with gas and starts it up.
He then begins to berate the other nine for their dead condition, and he uses the one car as a taxi to earn money to support his berating ministry.
There is a theology in that parable.
I ask again; how are you any better than what you claim to critique?
You will have to answer for this waste of time you call the real ministryof Jesus.
If being sophomoric is sinful, you are all part of the dying.
God speaks!
What’s worse? Being sophomoric (which I’m not granting) or being a dick in the name of God?
I’ll take a world full of the former any day.
Why are you wasting your time here if it’s just such a cesspool?
Don’t you have some reproducing to do or have a picture of yourself to blow up so people can worship your celebrity at your own little circus church?
Chris P.,
I suggest you read the comment thread HERE and observe… maybe even learn.
“I ask again; how are you any better than what you claim to critique?”
I do not claim to be better. I just claim that there are better expressions of Christ available than those exhibited by those who we
critiquecorrect.Chris P: (#12)
I ask for the first time; where have I have ever said that?
Is it just me, or is it more than mildly ironic that I’m reminded time and time again (ad nauseum) by a human that I’m going to have to answer to God?
Is it just me, or is it more than mildly ironic that I’m being lectured on wasting time by someone who comments here so often, and yet rarely has anything to say that’s germane to the actual topic being discussed?
Is it just me, or is it more than mildly ironic that we get this criticism when we don’t claim to be a ministry?
Nah. That last one is definitely just me. “Ironic” isn’t the word.
Where did this come from?
Ingrid continues to obsess about the Miss USA pageant and the attention this woman has received. But in this latest post, she publicly attacks Steve Camp. I surely pray that Steve will see this as another reason why he should continue distancing himself from such blogs who not only beat a dead horse, but usurp male leadership as well.
It must be difficult being perfect, you leave yourself open for criticism. Ingrid has provided an indecent video as evidence and says she will not respond to e-mails that object. She also has informed many of us who did not know that the woman in question had plastic surgery.
There is a vast difference between graciously presenting a case for Christian modesty, and being so upset that others are not as upset as are you that you feel the need to continue your attack on this women and include a male blogger who used to be your friend. All this over some obscure woman who endorsed tragitional marriage.
The body of Christ can always count on Ingrid to locate the sin of others, present a post with a self righteous ambiance, go way over the top on the issue, and hold on to it for weeks like a pit bull pulling on a towel. And when some blogger who is linked to on CRN says a few words of grace without endorsing her attire, Ingrid cannot contain her public flogging of that male blogger.
Perhaps Ingrid should insinuate Camp and others are lusting like she did with those of us who found fault with her visceral attack on Miley Cyrus, after all, it seems she reads hearts like gypsies read tea leaves.
Rick,
That’s quite a rant by Ingrid. I wonder if she’s “OK” – she just doesn’t sound in control.
Anyway, I note she questions the woman’s salvation when she says – “…who are holding this woman up as a follower of Jesus Christ…” – to declare someone should not be held as a sister in the faith is probably the worst I’ve seen her do.
Now I’m gonna be humming “You don’t think like I do; you’re going to hell” all evening.
It was nice of her to provide that video for “men like Steve Camp”. Can someone please tell me if it sin to provide something that might cause a man to stumble even if it’s “evidence”?
Ingrid is obsessive/compulsive about everything. We haven’t seen the last of this woman on SoL. Perhaps if she makes a porno video that will be provided as well.
So since this woman was immodest her endorsement of Biblical marriage is worthless?
How come something Proctor says is OK even though he states things that are horrific?
Ingrid, leave this woman alone and go back to Miley, she feels shunned!
Instead of pointing out the problem, why not devote blogspace to the solution. There’s enough negativity on their end to run a Solar System…
Pointing out the problem = discernment.
The solution = compromise.
Yes, it is not sufficient to point out the issue. One must identify those that hold it.
K (#22), I’m going to assume that your comment is directed at those that this song is parodying.
If it isn’t, then you must not read this blog much.
Actually I read this blog quite a lot. At times, there is great stuff here, then at times, there is just…this. Is parody part of the solution?
I’d say parody provides comic relief. And maybe, just maybe, and ADM will look at the lyrics as if in a mirror and see.
I hate comic relief.
K (#26), if your opinion is that parody is not part of the solution, then your original comment (#22) should read “devote all blogspace exclusively to the solution”.
If your opinion is that parody might be part of the solution, then I don’t see where we have an issue when the vast majority of the posts here are delineating the solutions.
Especially when this post parodies those that never do anything except point out the problem. Granted, there’s some caricature in this song, but very little.
I would suggest that the parady magnifies the theologies to which some hold. Those theologies themselves are much more offensive than any parady can generate.
BTW – the comments on the right hand side of the home page is vacant on my computer.
Fixed.
I’m saying that maybe – just maybe – we need to exhibit a higher model, one of love and gracefulness, in sharp contrast to the ADMs and their acidic-tongued rhetoric. It’s just seems like such a violent cycle – they act like baffoons, you mock their acting like baffoons, they act like they have a bee in the bonnets and act even MORE like baffoons and the cycle goes on.
Why bother? Unless we’re Jesus, who could do things with the purest of motives, I really don’t think parody, sarcasm, mockery, etc. serves any purpose with these folks – they’re like pros at it…
Rick,
You ARE comic relief!
(ok, not always, because very often you are the mirror that forces great introspection in me! But I think I actually “guffaw” the most at your quick-witted comments! You are a blessing…)
Thank you, Zan. I greatly admire your domestic ministry, there are signs it might be working.
I find this title offensive. But I must admit, they are addressing the deep spiritual matters of our time, and the “research” that is necessary to uncover a story like this is profound.
I actually believe Ingrid has some kind of problem. She is obsessed with things like this involving women. I think this is “clown discernment”!
After seeing her video, she probably now understands why Christian males defend this woman. Yawn.
#36 PLEASE, everyone tell Ingrid she is right so she can STOP. Enough already.
Obviously you all have seemed to have forgotten the most IMPORTANT Commandment.
Thou shalt not have breast augmentation.
I hate it too, I prefer TUMS.
When you report that a woman had breast augmentation, and you provide a video of her in a bikini, you are not a discerner anymore.
You are a stumblingblock to Christian males.
I could use some grace, love and mercy augmentation, but does the procedure hurt?
When you “exhibit” judgment without any augmentation of grace and humility, your theology falls flat. (
)
And look, the catfight continues!!
Is there such a things a “modest verbiage”??
Proctor, once an approved site, has now been relegated to “Christian male” status along with Camp and others. Ingrid writes,
Everyone is now a “supposedly” Christian “male”. There once was a woman named Athaliah who destoyed all the males (she thought) so she could be
kingqueen. You know you are bankrupt when such an issue becomes your obsession. It is wrong for a Christian woman to appear in a skimpy bathing suit on television.
Move on.
From one of Jerry’s posts:
But there are at least EIGHT posts at SoL on the Miss USA “controversy”. The “hardly a whimper” principle takes on new meanings. A woman dresses immodestly on American television and Ingrid is obsessed and incensed, but during this “debate” thousands have died all over the world, not to mention the spiritual need of sinners.
Hardly a whimper indeed. (What’s the over/under on more posts about bikinis?”
I watched the video.
These woman aren’t really dancing…I mean that woman made it sound like they were doing a pole dance and grinding everywhere.
By the rhetoric I thought something different had happened than what usually happens at those things.
Once again, Ingrid gets caught up in her Victorian craziness.
The real issue at these things is NOT the swimsuit competition. Those are only a symptom of the deeper problem: The whole idea of pageants in the first place.
The whole thing is predicated on valuing the wrong thing: externals.
Given that, people are shocked and offended at the idea of a swimsuit segment?
It just goes to show how the real issue is power and resentment:
The resentment that one group of “external obsessed people” can’t determine what set of externals another set of external obsessed people choose to obsess over.
One clandestine issue is this:
We will only accept your agreement with us on issues if we approve of everything else on your theological inventory. Agreement from flawed believers will be summarily rejected with extreme prejudice.
Another one.
Focus on the family bites the dust.
To me, it doesn’t really look like the swimsuit thing is the issue at all. It’s more like, bloggers who used to be friends have fallen out–now they drop each other from their blog roles, publicly vilify each other, and try to get their readers to hate those who used to be their friends (and are still their brothers/sisters in Christ).
It’s sad and pathetic. And kind of shocking actually, (though as Rick F. once said to me, “Are you new here?”
)
Excellent point, Alice. A woman’s augmentation must be Biblically “marked” since it cuases divisions.
Rom.16:17 – Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions…
(That is a close as I get to being naughty!)
Topless photos of Miss USA have surfaced. Here comes the avalanche of Look! Look! I told you so posts.
Immodesty is at odds with Biblical truths. Setting up Miss USA as spiritual leader is absurd, but picking her bones clean is equally absurd. Proving this woman has compromised her faith is no big feat.
In words of President Shepherd:
“We’ve got serious problems, and we need serious men…”
Actually, she’s not Miss USA, she lost – which must really frustrate whoever actually won… do you suppose Ingrid will supply us with a link to those photos?
