For those who never knew, for those of us that need a reminder, and for those who still don’t get it, Ben Witherington III has a great article explaining a few of the basic reasons for a proper hermeneutic: Hermeneutics - What is it, and why do Bible readers need it?

(Etic: of or relating to features or items analyzed without considering their role as a structural unit in a system.)

My wife and I were just talking about this same article out to me last night. BWIII is one of our favorite Bible nerds.

I forgot, Chris, that the Bible fell out of the sky with no context, whatsoever…

Ben did our Bible studies at our last annual conference. Did a wonderful job. Almost made me wonder why I didn’t consider Asbury just a little more….almost.

“Proper hermeneutics = the opposite of everything this blog says.”

It would be impossible to beat this statement as far as overgeneralization and self righteousness.

“opposite” - Really? The exact opposite?

“everything” - Really? Every single thing?

“this blog” - Really? The entire blog and all its writers?

I give Chris P. credit for taking the gold medal in hateful hyperbole completely unseasoned with grace.

This has been a new segment we call “Really?”

Really Rick? Have you been watching Saturday Night Live Weekend Update? Really? :)

    Oh my god, he didn’t.
