…if they will say the same thing about McCain’s speech in September?

    Probably not.

  2. Kevin I Says:

It’s not a sign of the times.

It’s a sign of the times past where we modeled our government buildings on greek and roman buildings.

If all the buildings in washington looked like log cabins, or as originally intended to have a native american mix to it’s design, and now someone came out in somehting looking like a greek temple then we’d have something to complain about.

  3. Rick Frueh Says:

John McCain looks like a wax figure in Disney’s Hall of Presidents who came to life. McCain could give his speech popping his head out of the top of a tank!

  4. Joe C Says:

How is this news even remarkable? It certainly has nothing to do with the Bible, or my life as a Christian, and only serves to highlight CRN’s heavy bias against Obama; not that McCain is any ‘better’. Why should the editor post this and then try to tie it to the Bible? Weird.

  5. Rick Frueh Says:

Joe - it is a pristine example of how some believers mix religion with politics and take sides. I reference you to the body of my former remarks!

  6. Phil Miller Says:

I actually think the backdrop is perfect for Obama. It puts him in the setting of the ancients Sophists who perfected the art of talking without really saying anything…

I kid, I kid…(OK, not really) I’m not really an Obama fan. I’m not a McCain fan either, if that makes it any better for some.

  7. Nathan Says:

I find it funny how anti-Obama the ODMs are for his stance on abortion. However, what did our pro-life president do this year to help the cause? Oh yeah… just checking.

Yeah, the reality is that the president really has very little power to influence that issue other than the Supreme Court justices he nominates. Even then, if Roe v. Wade were somehow overturned, abortion wouldn’t become automatically illegal. It would just go back to the states.

Personally, I think it’s an issue where Christians can influence people more by the way we treat the people who are considering abortion than through politics.

  9. RayJr Says:

    Nathan,

He appointed, and got Senate approval of, two pro-life justices to the Supreme Court, which is two more than we can expect from Obama.

  10. Joe C Says:

2 Judges who will never affect any change. Abortion rights are here to stay, and like most European countries the ‘choice’ will actually do more to reduce abortions. Next up, gay marriage rights. The question is, in the case of abortions, what can Christians do to mitigate abortions? I agree more with Phil on this one. Also, having education programs, or even elminating the REASONS people feel the need to get abortions in the first place, seems like a more plausible plan rather than just scream for right-wingers to be in office who never really did anything to change abortion once they were in office anyways.

  11. RayJr Says:

Laws against murder and stealing haven’t affected much change either, but at least it shows that we, as a society, take the legal stand and say that these activities are wrong. Now if we can work on the REASONS people feel the need to kill and steal, then we’d be getting somewhere.

  12. Chris P. Says:

    Wow!!
    Talk about missing the point.
You are so hung up on your odm stereotypes you can’t see the proverbial forest.
I put up that post, and if McCain follows the same path I will post on him also.
Of course the government buildings are designed after greek and roman architecture. One of the points. The other being they are making Obama into a messianic figure.
I hate politics, and am no fan of the “America is a christian nation” philosophy
Western civilization was birthed from the mingling of talmudic/kabbalic judaism and the babylonian magi during the exile. It is occultic in its roots, as are all greco-romanized religions.
The roots of all civilizations/nations/cultures are found in Babel.
What does this have to with the bible?? Everything; unless you are a hyper-preterist.

Fortunately the God of all foreknowledge i.e. the omniscient, has put forth a perfect plan and all the schemes and plans of mankind fall perfectly into His purposes.

Unless of course you are an open theist heretic.
    Psalm 2;Acts 4:23-31

The scriptures are “supported” by the church which is the pillar and buttress of Truth. 1 Tim 3:15
For my papist friends that means the church affirms the truth/word, and proclaims it. It is not the originator of the truth

  13. Rick Frueh Says:

“but at least it shows that we, as a society, take the legal stand and say that these activities are wrong.”

Not if the society is dead and totally depraved. These laws are nothing more than legislative towers of Babel designed to make man his own god. The principle of Roamns 13 has been severely twisted as to propose that God directed Hitler.

  14. nc Says:

Actually, that “stand” will probably only be taken by some states in the South and the Plains.

My concern is the yammering about “no right to privacy”. A lot of issues besides choice are grounded in it. There are some abortion opponents who want to go after that “theoretical” basis for pro-choice legality.

    Talk about a Pandora’s box…

Do I like abortion? Nope. Hate it.
I just think laws aren’t exercises in cultural symbolism, they’re instruments of order.

  15. Scotty Says:

I found it more interesting how the “editor” attaches Acts 12:21-22 to it. As if in the back drop all the people are going to say. “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”

  16. Rick Frueh Says:

If people feel that abortion is both murder and on God’s front burner then why do they just think a little talk and a vote is sufficient to eradicate it?

Are our churches open every night for prayers to come? Have we wept a river of repentance? Are we evangelizing with an obsessive passion? Are we emptying our savings in order to help the fight?

This evangelical plan to “vote in” God’s will only exposes us as powerless, pitiful, and misguided. You want change? Preach and live the gospel of Jesus Christ, starting with YOU!

  17. Rick Frueh Says:

The Souther Baptist are holding a couple of pre-election prayer meetings. I found this statement analogous.

“Our vision statement is an American society that affirms and practices Judeo-Christian values rooted in biblical authority,” Land said. “America will be better off if people who are voting are seeking God’s guidance.”

That is like praying for God’s guidance at a Madonna concert. The answer is “leave”!

  18. nc Says:

    Rick,

    Madonna.
I just laughed so hard my office just shot me dirty looks.

    too funny.

On the issue, I think it’s really crazy that everyone wants to eradicate abortion, but I don’t see them adopting in droves.

  19. Rick Frueh Says:

SoL has a new post about Richard Abanes. OK, I guess the words “move on” are just meant to deceive. Hey, I didn’t think we were done with Pelagius yet, let us rekindle the expose about him! Ingrid suggests that all who live Godly will suffer persecution, as in herself. A little perspecetive is in order.

Are they servants of Christ?–I speak as if insane–I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death.
Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep.
    I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren;
I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.
Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches.
Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern?
If I have to boast, I will boast of what pertains to my weakness.

I looked for “someone was saying mean things about me” but it was lost in the translation. And of course this isn’t limited to Sol, it comes from all sides. Call me about the 20th stripe and I will acknowledge the reality of your persecution, until then, put your thermostat on 72 and keep writing.

  20. Keith Says:

Who cares where Obama stands to make a speech. Comrades, rejoice in the knowledge that Barack Obama will the be next President of the United States. Everyone please stand as we sing His praises!!!!

    All hail the messiah
    Obama, Obama
The path to the new socialist motherland
    Our savior, our savior
    Obama, Obama
The leader more famous than Lindsay Lohan
Bow down and praise the one
Give him your money and your guns
    Give us a country
    That makes your wife proud
Lord Barry heal the bitter ones
White and Clinging to faith and to guns
Hope for the change of the hope of the change!

  21. Rick Frueh Says:

Hey Keith - Glenn Back believes Joseph Smith so what is so wrong with Obama? :)

  22. Keith Says:

You can listen to the Obama Anthem here. Grab a tissue. Your heart will be moved.

  23. Keith Says:

Who said anything was wrong with Obama. You better not talk bad about Obama! His wife LOVES this country…

  24. Rick Frueh Says:

    And McCain’s anthem is:

    McCain über alles.

  25. Keith Says:

Had to look that one up, Rick. McCain is no big winner with me either.

I will be voting AGAINST Obama this election. Put that lizard that sells insurance on TV in there, and I’ll vote for him. Heck, I’d vote a third term for George Bush if I could…and I think he’s done a lousy job. There just ain’t much to pick from out there–not that it matters in the end.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Ps 20:7)

  26. Rick Frueh Says:

BTW Keith, the name Frueh is German and my brothers lives in Germany. I am waiting for the Fourth Reich to begin! :)

  27. Keith Says:

    Nov 5, 2008. ‘Nuff said.

  28. Chris P. Says:

    Ahhh
moderated out (what an ironic expression)
    again.

    Hmmm
My first comment wasn’t there a few minutes ago.

Just to prove that Acts 12 fits the type:

Don’t tell me that this isn’t idol worship.

    keith
Our worship ministry wrote a song from that very psalm.

  30. Phil Miller Says:

Just to prove that Acts 12 fits the type:

So, Chris, does that mean you expect Obama to be struck dead and eaten by worms, as well?

  31. nc Says:

    ummmm….

    are there any “papists” here?

    just wondering….

  32. Keith Says:

Chris P: If your worship ministry was REALLY good, they’d write a song based on the Obama anthem. Now there’s “praise” worth singing about!!! ;)

Phil: “does that mean you expect Obama to be struck dead and eaten by worms,…” Apparently there’s a few good ol’ boys out there that wouldn’t be too upset if that were the case. M
