Hi i’m truely one of the people Doug mentions, i got saved at 15 through reading Nicky Cruz book and then it basically went downhill..I have never been comfortable around Christians or church always felt outside looking in..
So basically at the time i got saved i also wandered off,i got involved in EVERYTHING different faiths different sexuality the full works, and to this day i’m outside…
But i just don’t get it from Doug,i’m Mr Working Class, all my circle are unsaved and were from unsaved families ,and i get the impression were the type of people he would hope to appeal too,but i just come away feeling cold..

PS When you asked him about Seeds of Compassion, and if they were concerned about other Christian groups, he said yes because some Catholics are fundamentalist and believe their the only way,he obviously quotes that as a neagtive, so if you follow the logic is he saying its wrong to believe there’s only one route to God ? Or that he didn’t want the truth to be compative?
BTW i didnt think its wrong for them to go,just what they were or wern’t perpared to say

Andy,
I think what he meant was the same concern applied across the board due to the commonality of that belief. What he held as negative was attitude that because we have that belief we should dominate the conversation, and rudely not allow anyone else to speak.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for sharing your story. I had troubles in my youth as well (still am young though!) with the Christian community. I eventually found that the only place I can have true acceptance is with Jesus.

I had to laugh as I could say something about Doug’s critics not even beginning to understand what level Doug starts out with let alone what level of conversation he can go to. They seem lost with the simplest things.
iggy

They seem lost with the simplest things.
I resemble that remark
Seriously though maybe he could try and be a tad more simpler and to the point, maybe thats why he suffers so much bad pr?

“Consider the lilies” would be a good benchmark for my intelect, sometimes simple is good
