With the recent movie “Expelled” getting some press I assumed that it wouldn’t be long before the Ben Stein “Christmas Tree” email started floating around again. Well I was right!
As of this morning I had 3 messages in my email about Ben Stein and his declaration on “Christmas Trees”. Only problem is the email isn’t true. Of course it has some truth but much of the “commentary” has been fabricated. And some of the items in the letter are outright lies attributed to Ben Stein. You can read the whole situation at Snopes.com
In this age of information you would think that Christians, of all people, would do due diligence if/when launching an email, blogging, or internet slander campaign.

We Christians are the worst gullable of the lot. During the seemingly yearly Proctor and Gamble / Satan worshippers urban legend that goes around one lady in our bible study said “It’s true! I saw the symbol 6-6-6 on the packaging”. I went home to look at it was the recycle symbol.
Typical.

You know what is bad? Just this past week, I sent a reply to one of my junk-mail-friends (you know who I mean!) who sends me all kinds of stuff. This reply said that she needs to check her facts, and directed her to snopes.com, which she said she was familiar with. The email was the one about the University of Kentucky not teaching the holocaust. (FALSE!) She said she will do better to recheck things, so I opened one this morning to see if she was keeping her word, and sure enough there was one about an Amber Alert, and guess what?…Sure enough, FALSE! She didn’t even think, because all I did was do a google search on the supposedly missing girl’s name, and the snopes article was top of the list! AAARRRGH! People like this make so frustrated! How hard is it???

Listen, Zan, pay no attention to those spam lies. However, Madeline O’Hare is attempting again to make Christian radio illegal!!

What a feat…from beyond the grave, nonetheless! That could add a whole new dimension to the internet story!
