a public apology

Is it proper to make a comparative apology? If so, then I must repent of any accusations of hyper-fundie-ness, bitterness, or anger that I have made about Ken or Ingrid. I’ve found someone who makes them look like Joel Osteen on uppers.

A few days ago, a commenter on my last post noted that the discerners “are now equating rudeness, mean-spiritedness, and nastiness with … godliness!” I sent him a note to ask where specifically the text (that he quoted as proof) came from. Hang on to this link if you ever need to induce vomiting.

I popped over there and asked a quick question. I got a response from the blog author. I say “response” purposefully, because it wasn’t anywhere close to an answer. But that’s OK.

The statement that “inspired” this post, though, was buried in that response (emphasis mine):

If a person is a student of the Bible he will readily find that the Bible is for the most part a negative book, of wrath, judgment, and condemnation.

What a sad existence. If that’s Christianity, include me out.

What am I saying? He probably already has.

*But the servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle unto all men…
    *Speak the truth in love…
*But the greatest of these is love…
*Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt…
    *Render not evil for evil…
*To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hating and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us…

How can we preach Christ in wrath and anger? Speak about judgment to be sure, but be clothed with humility and like Paul with “much tears”. It is an endorphin rush to reprove and rebuke while imagining ourselves as the direct mouthpiece for God, but it must be tempored by the “whole counsel of God” which is self indicting as well.

Without God’s unreasonable grace, we are all “out” as you say Brendt. Now I’d duck if I were you! :)

  2. Brendt Says:

What was that about rushing dolphins?

  3. Chris Says:

Is that another one of Iggy’s sites? That’s hilarious sad!

  4. Phil Miller Says:

So, Jesus absorbed all of God’s wrath on the cross, but not quite I guess, if God is still mad. It boggles my mind really. Either Jesus completed the work on the cross, or He didn’t.

So remember - God loves you, and He wants to kill you…

  5. Evan Hurst Says:

God loves you, and He wants to kill you…

THAT should be a bumper sticker, but insert the word “also.”

God loves you, and also He wants to kill you.

  6. Matt Says:

    From indywatchman’s site:

First let me remind you that those who would serve the Lord are not patsies for the Devil or the world, they speak the truth boldly and without fear of man. Jesus and all the Apostles, except John, were killed for their directness in presenting the truth, along with many others in history who stood against evil during their watch.

If this Indywatchman is an approved watchman for God, then why has’t he died for Christ yet, like the apostles? And since when did God need watchmen? Can’t God defend himself?

  7. Evan Hurst Says:

    Can’t God defend himself?

well, according to the logic of the quote, if God can’t defend himself and thus needs watchmen, then he is obviously a “patsy for the devil.”

  8. Rick Frueh Says:

And most of the martyrs went to their death with praise on their lips, while these blog frogs envision themselves as electron warriors, pounding a keyboard for Jesus.

“Jesus and all the Apostles, except John, were killed for their directness in presenting the truth, ”

Jesus laid down His life and was murdered at the hands of His Father because of His love for us. The others will killed for their faith as they went throughout the world preaching the gospel. So if you REALLY don’t have the fear of man, and you want to follow in the apostles footsteps, sell all you have and move to Darfur.

    Waiting…
    Waiting…

    I didn’t think so…post on!

  9. iggy Says:

    Chris,

No, it is not one of m sites… but he is good on the satire isn’t he… oh… wait… I just looked at it again and he is not doing satire… oh my he is serious…

Golly, now I know who I have been channeling!*

    iggy

*Channeling is not a “Christian” thing, but since I am emergent and though I don’t do Yoga but see nothing wrong with “Christian” Yoga, I figure why not expand! So I am off to channel an ODM spirit while doing my “stretching” that looks like Yoga but is not cuz I am just stretching… though I am in the Lotus position, I am just stretching… Is that you Shirley? Miss McClain? I was Cleopatra you say? But I thought you were…. hmmm… we must be twin souls then!

  10. Evan Hurst Says:

i hate hate hate it when Shirley MacLaine tries to “help” me when i’m doing non-Christian yoga. (i do vinyasa…it’s painful…)

    my mom calls Yoga “posing.”

which makes it sound like “modeling.”

which, though challenging, is not as difficult as vinyasa Yoga.

  11. iggy Says:

So since I really don’t do Yoga, am I a Yoga Poser?

    hehe

    iggy

  12. Tim Reed, Owosso MI Says:

Your mom calls you a poser. Haha.

  13. Evan Hurst Says:

she didn’t call me a poser last night.

    *oh snap!*

  14. Rick Frueh Says:

I wish I was as niave as Brendt! Ask Nathan, every time he lifts his head up he gets shot!

  15. Brendt Says:

Either Jesus completed the work on the cross, or He didn’t.

Apparently, He didn’t. Hmmm, and the ODMs are always going on about false teachers spreading “another gospel”.

  16. Brendt Says:

I’m so naive, I don’t even know why Rick said I was naive. ;-)

    Context, please?

  17. Evan Hurst Says:

Either Jesus completed the work on the cross, or He didn’t.

well, He was almost finished, but then He decided to hand it off to Ken & Ingrid…

  18. Rick Frueh Says:

You were surprised at the viscousness of some blogger. That guy is not some isolated case, he runs a blog home cell group!! :)

Ask Iggy, he’s not even saved! Brendt, get ready for the second semester! I was once niave as well, then I suggested that guys like me who see some wrong things in the church need repentance and more love ourselves. That is where I realized how niave I was!!

When you turn the gun on the players in the same room they take it away from you.

  19. iggy Says:

Ask Iggy, he’s not even saved!

Actually Rick, I am trying to help spread the rumor I am not saved so I can reach more non Christians…

    iggy = )

  20. Richard Abanes Says:

    I’m not a Yoga Poser, I’m a Yoda Poser….

hmmm, a heretic, I am. And yet, the truth I will tell. Yes. Rudeness is the path to the dark side. Rudeness leads to self-righteousness. Self-righteousness leads to hate. Hate leads to creating your own discernment blog. Discern or do not discern … there is no try.
