Peddling Filth
Corey pointed out this post over at CRN - which can only be described as a hit piece. It’s short, disappointing, and relishes in the “turmoil” of a fellow member in the Body of Christ. I’m not sure what is more troubling, that they seem to relish in the supposed turmoil within a local expression of the Body of Christ - or the sources they quote. If you follow the links one is a newspaper the other two are blogs (here and here).
I find the second source, the first blog, to be highly ironic since, on the same page as the Mars Hill article, there is a link to “Lustlab” where women can find their “inner slut.”
The post itself doesn’t say much, so there’s little to respond to except to marvel at the peddling that’s being done. Who knows, maybe there’s a scandal brewing in Seattle that will be another embarrassment to the Body as a whole; then again maybe it’s just a few outsiders (media and bloggers) fanning the flames against something they do not understand - either way, the from the other parts of the Body should be a) charity and love not b) relish and condemnation.

1. Where is the evidence of this alleged “relishing”?
I find nothing in the “tone” or the language used that supports that presumption.
2. All the whining here about guilt by association and holier than thou attitudes, and then you turn around and make yourselves guilty of the same.
3. It is evident that there is something amiss at Mars Hill, at least as far as some the congregants are concerned.
You know this, but once again attempt to play innocent.
This post has no purpose at all.
How do you live with yourselves?

Ah yes spread the dirt about others, just like Jesus did. Churches like Mar’s Hill come under a lot of scrutiny. They also have a younger membership who tend to be tech savvy. No problem, until someone gets disgruntled then they use the modern forms of communication to share their disgruntledness. (prob not a word?) Word travels quickly.
Is there a problem at Mar’s Hill? Maybe. Is it my business? Not really. I will admit, I am not a Mark Driscoll fan but he is a pastor and he is under the control and authority of the Mar’s Hill. End of story.
The members of a Church are in control. They can either force a vote to remove someone, etc or they can vote with their feet/money. No matter what form of government the Church has, the membership is in control. That’s why these matters are local Church matters.
In the case in Atlanta with Earl Paulk…………he acted criminally and should be dealt with accordingly.
Few Churches or individuals can stand fine scrutiny. Any Curch that was audited or looked at closely would be found out of compliance in some area.
An audit of my personal life would find many areas out of compliance, of that I am sure.
The ODM’s forget that they are cut from the same cloth as everyone else. Don’t worry tho…………time usually teaches them this lesson.

Maybe the point is it is not our _____ business what is going on in Seattle? It is not newsworthy. the ODM’s make it news worthy because it proves to them that something is amiss in Emerging/Driscoll land.

1. That’s why I said “…they seem…”
2. That’s why I said “…highly ironic…”
3. That’s why I said “…maybe there’s a scandal brewing…”

Man, those people on those links really, really hate Mark Driscoll. I guess CRN’s reasoning is the old, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” thing. It’s really just pure gossip. Might as well be the National Enquirer.

Phil, you hit the nail on the head. Referencing sites like this is just like when Jason Janz got all his information about End of the Spear from a gay man in a gay magazine, all the while decrying homosexuality.

besides the fact, one of these articles is from December 2006 (just trying to find anything to gripe about..)
As far as the money woes, if you listen to Driscoll’s podcasts he says they came in under budget for the year. Yes, they were having financial problems.. they cut costs, etc.
The other blog about the staff members being let go- he says also on one of his podcasts that they published a 150 page document on the subject to answer everyone’s questions. It’s not exactly the scandal that everyone would like to imagine. They are being upfront about their problems and dealing with them.

Ironic that CRN now partners with a porno pusher
Golly what will those guy do next? I mean I was offended by the site and what the blog they refrenced had on it! The language was filthy… but if it promotes CRN’s hate, well I guess they can overlook the “f” word and links to porno sites and help the guy get hits…
Really Ken… pushing porno… for shame.
