Is the Arbitrator out To Get Him Too?

Ken Silva is developing a bit of a complex the last few days. In this “short piece” he lets everyone know how mean Chris L and Nathan have been to them and despite the whole dog down thing being cleared up he just can’t help himself. “Everybody now…it’s all about Ken, lord, it’s all about Ken…”

Reading for Comprehension

The poor author at Apprising Ministries. First of all he seems to completely miss half of what this author said and then completely misrepresents what was said. (I’m sure that wasn’t done on purpose). The author only quotes half of this here. Something the Bruce points out here.

Which moves us to our next example. It would seem that Mr. Silva is upset that his opinions have been removed from different Wiki pages. In fact he seems to imply that he’s being picked on. Maybe he missed the part that BLOGs are not considered to be authoritative. Maybe he missed the fact that Wiki (as an encyclopedia) isn’t all that concerned with what amounts to nothing more than his opinions. Maybe he missed the part that Wiki is not a place to air grievances, maybe he is just bitter because he doesn’t have his own wiki page but these two posts are just silly. Surely, there’s a woman somewhere that he can threaten with eternal damnation.

So here’s what we have: at best we have a man who purposely lied about another by deliberately cutting and pasting only half of what was written so that he could make himself look good. Then that same man complains when his research credibility is taken into account. It would appear that Rick Warren is not the only one massaging the truth these days.

I’ll be back!

Ken couldn’t let his recent defeat on the internet at wikipedia.com go down without some article on CRN.  I mean, I know he is God’s appointed ruler over all that is orthodox, so he wouldn’t want the world to see that he is immortal and flawed (”pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” comes to mind).  He didn’t bother to bring up the fact that opinion blogs, such as apprising, are not allowed to be cited on wiki pages, or that most of his “proof” is himself citing himself.   Gotta love his closing remarks though

thus the lead Watchdog Watcher Chris Lyons may finally rest easy…

Well, at least for now anyway…

He might as well have said “I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!”

Tim Reed recently wrote on this site regarding Chris’ “put down” statement, his clarification, and Ingrid’s lack of acknowledgment. Chris even took it up a notch or two by taking clarification up to full-blown repentance. As Merry (a commenter) said, this was a humble thing to do, and I quite agree.

(I am also happy to note that — since I started to write this post — the issue has been resolved between Chris and Ingrid. However, I find something that came out of it to be very troubling. Since it’s not directly related, I don’t see this as ripping open a healed wound.)

Of course, not all commenters here are as gracious as Merry. On Tim’s post, one commenter said:

If Ingrid, after 18 years, has not retracted her work, or even changed her beliefs about what she is writing about than this site has been a complete failure.

OK, now I’m going to have to work from a framework here that maybe one thing that Ingrid has ever written or thought was wrong. If such an idea is unfathomable to you, then much of the rest of this post won’t make sense.

Read that first part again:

If Ingrid, after 18 years, has not retracted her work, or even changed her beliefs about what she is writing . . .

The only conclusion that one can come to is that God is absolutely powerless to affect any change in someone after they hold a particular belief for 18 years or more. The ramifications of such a belief are staggering:

  1. No adults can be saved.
  2. This would include Paul, who before his (I guess, alleged) conversion was murderously anti-Christian.
  3. So, throw out 2/3 of the New Testament.
  4. At least some of Jesus’ disciples were probably over 18. So (to quote the knight from Indiana Jones 3), “he chose poorly”.
  5. Oh, and one more, God’s a total wimp.

I’m sure there are plenty others. Yeah, here’s one more:

If one’s mind can’t be changed after 18 years, then Slice / AM [sic] / CR?N are all “a complete failure.”

Either that, or none of the authors at those sites desire for any of the error that they point out to actually be changed, but are just stroking the egos of those that already agree with them.

Hey, I didn’t say it — that commenter did.

(P.S. It has been noted that, given the resolution of the issue, this site — and perhaps Ingrid’s too — has accomplished something, and therefore is not “a complete failure”. In one sense, this lets a bit of wind out of this post. In another sense, it doesn’t, but merely makes the commenter’s statement even more foolish-looking.)

Something Wiki’d This Way Comes

Not YoursI’ve had an interesting journey this past week or so which began, as most journeys do, unexpectedly.

In my professional work, one of my functions is in investigating how to integrate newer knowledge management technologies in ways that are unique within our business (which isn’t to say that it’s always ‘cutting edge’ technology, but sometimes it is). One of these technologies I decided to do a bit deeper dive into recently was with some targeted wiki’s. So, the first place I started was the public wikipedia. Because I work with some technophobes, I was trying to evaluate some of the “user-friendliness” of basic functions, which led me to play around with editing pages (without saving them) and looking at the content management processes around them.

I’m sure you’re probably yawning by now, as I was starting to, when I read a comment on CRN.Info that caught my attention:

Ken (Silva) says: “I was flattered to see that the Lord has seen fit for Apprising Ministries to show up on the Wikipedia entry for Emergent Church Pastor Rob Bell”

So I went to the Rob Bell page, and it looked like this (without the stuff at the top). So, I made a few quick edits just to put my toe in the water without changing too much. Then, I ended up getting busy with some other things, and forgot about my wiki experiment for several days.
