I read a few lines of that article and had one thought. Who are the pastors involved here and I mean both sides of the issue?
Timothy 3:1-7
1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), 6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. 7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
Titus 1:6-9
6 namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. 7 For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.
Seriously, Ken needs help. I forget how much sometimes because I don’t get round these parts all that much anymore but having been back around the last few days has really reminded me how much help Ken needs. I feel badly for him.
I want to share this with all my blog brethren. Many of you are aware of my health problems but most do not know how serious they were. I have battled a very serious internal infection that kept returning despite taking over ten major intravenous anti-biotics for four months.
During that time I have been hospitalized almost 50% of the time and even while at home I was still hooked to intravenous antibiotics. Finally today, my blood has come up clean and I am being released tomorrow to go home with only pill antibiotics. I appreaciate your prayers and pray for the 40+ doctors and nurses that heard my testimony and were shared the gospel.
I now weigh what I did as a senior in high school, but it will be good to regain my strength. I still will rehab my ankle which had to be fused and will not be whole for a year. In all things I still love Jesus and my life is in His hands. Thank you for letting me share with you guys, I hope I can be a blessing to you as you have been to me!
Get better soon, Rick. Hope things go well on your return home.
Concerning the Silva/Jones stuff, I’m not seeing much admirable on either side. It seems to be very literally a “he say/she says” thing, elementary school playground stuff.
Seriously, though, if you examine 1 Cor 6, the instruction is not for a wronged brother to just suck it up and lay down for abuse. The instruction is for both parties to work it out as brothers.
So, in this case, it seems that Ken has just been - well, Ken - and probably told her (in essence) “suck it up, sister. I’ll say whatever I want to say about your husband, true or not.” Therefore, if it ever did become a lawsuit, both parties would be at fault according to 1 Cor 6…
That’s true Chris L… it seems to sound like Ken is one way on the phone (somewhat nice) then another way on the Internet (mean, nasty, slanderous, rumor spreading, gossiping, lying)…
Many people including myself have tried to communicate with ken about this, yet he only states put downs and tells you to “suck it up”. Really Ken has not been even close to 1 Cor 6 at all… with anyone… even me.
So to state he is on some higher horse… that is lame… his horse is just as unrighteous as all men’s are and Ken needs to realize that Romans 2 applies to him also.
I understand Paula wanting to stand up for Ken in her position, yet, really she seems pretty nasty and mean herself at her site. In fact… Someone said of Julie that she is emasculating Tony… and I see Paul doing that to Ken!
If Ken is as big as he claims he is in his own world, then let him fight his own battles. = )
1 Cor 6 also includes an admonition for the two parties that would be going to court to submit themselves to the judgment of the holy ones within the church. Essentially arbitrators with authority to render judgment from within the church.
Seems to me if your going to be slinging around 1 Cor 6 Ken is as much in violation of it as Julie.
Christians should never go to court for words or spiritual matters. Mrs. Jones should leave it alone, it seems as though she serves Christ. I do not believe she should approach Ken alone, though, she would be best served letting her husband tackle these issues.
And then also state that we do not talk “gospel” here as she also stated or as someone stated in another thread.
It goes to show the sick and twisted version of the “gospel” they preach… or as Paul stated, “another gospel”.
It seems to me that anyone who has “levels” in their faith where some are “higher” and some “lower” miss a few things of what the true “Gospel” of our Lord is.
1. Romans teaches “No one is righteous” and in that statement, the playing field is leveled.
2. “All have sinned and have fallen short the glory (Jesus) of God” So again, how is one man “higher” than another.
3. “The wages of sin is death”. Since all men have sinned so all men should, by God’s justice, die for their sins.
4. No one should judge another, “for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself,”. So to stated someone is “higher” denies the clear teaching of scripture and calls God a liar. This means that the person who claims another is “higher” than another commits slander against God Himself.
5. Slanderers will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
So to hate your brother and go against the clear teachings of scripture on this matter should allow those who are in Christ to see who is not in Christ or as John states, “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.” or ” Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.” or ” If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”
Again, this is the scripture not me… so if one feels conviction do not come after me in your anger, repent and God to God in humility and walk in the forgiveness of Christ.
Why do you mock God? Do you not know that He knows the thoughts and intents of your heart? You claim to be His disciple, to know Him and even to love Him, yet the vitriol is ever increasing. Where is the hatred for sin? Especially your own? You mock the Word of God by your “humor” and excusing of each other’s wickedness. It is easy to see yourself in a pleasant light when you compare yourself to each other always finding someone who is “more wicked” than yourself. But will you submit yourself to the Light of the Word and the glorious Gospel of Christ whom you claim to serve? If you had, the conversations that take place here would cease.
Is there no fear of God before your eyes? Not this glazed-over easy to digest “reverential awe” garbage, but the kind of fear that makes your knees knock together, your mouth dries up, your teeth chatter, and you end up in a fettle position in a dark corner? No? Why not? Who do you think God is? He is the Creator of this universe and the Creator of your soul and you dare to speak thusly in His name with no fear of reproach, judgement or condemnation? Yet all the while claiming a form of godliness and not knowing that you are denying it’s power? Is not the Cross of Christ worthy of discusion? Or have you grown ashamed of It’s power and find fulfillment elsewhere? Nothing else really matters but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. HE IS RISEN.
Darrel, if you are currently in a fettle [sic] position in the corner how do you type on the computer? Wait, you’re not in a fetal position in the corner with your knees knocking together? Have you no fear of God? Come on Darrel, show me where my sin is on this post or in this thread.
Darrel - let me inform you as to who they be that fear God and keep his commandments. They are those who tonight sleep with Aids orphans and tell them of Jesus - they are those who sleep lightly in Pakistan listening for the coming knives - they are those who are in a stinking Chinese prison singing praise to their Deliverer - they are those who smuggle Bibles through Tibet into China not holding their own lives precious.
Those my internet pontificator, those are the followers of the Lord Christ who fear God, not someone who sits at a keyboard and tells everyone else what he himself cannot do. You sir are a fraud.

I agree. It brings her down to Ken’s level.
December 15th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Rick,
I had no idea you were so sick. I pray that the Lord Almighty heals you in Jesus’ name.
And Merry Christmas!
Keith,
Your “High Exalted Lizard” tag is hilarious!

Tim Reed — not so sure she ever was up to Ken’s level.
December 16th, 2007 at 1:38 am
BTW still trying to figure out how Julie gets around the 1 Cor 6 stuff?
December 16th, 2007 at 1:55 am
Probably the same way that Ken gets around all the Matthew 18 stuff

So why do we hold to I Cor 6 as hard and fast for today’s culture but there’s a lot else that we don’t?
December 16th, 2007 at 9:24 am
Joe - the suing principle is not cultural, it has to do with our witness before the world which is transcultural.
