Seeing Something That’s Not There

Once again, the “editor” has posted a link to an article saying one thing with commentary implying it says another. This linked article is about researchers trying to find out whether or not homosexuality has a genetic cause. At no point in the article does it say anything about liberal Christians. On the other hand, it does mention Stanton Jones, a psychology professor at Wheaton who argues against a genetic cause.
Regardless of one’s opinion of homosexuality, it is clear that the “editor” has attempted to draw something out of this article that is just not there. Perhaps it would be easier to accept the “editor’s” research if he actually exhibited basic reading comprehension skills.

Years ago I sat like a lemming and shouted a mindless “amen” when the preacher said all homosexuals chose to be one. I even preached that myself. I no longer believe that, many are born with that tendency just like some are born with addiction tendencies or violent tempers.
All are born sinners, some with one particular sin more pronounced than others. Homosexuality cannot be accepted as a gift from God neither can it be viewed as the unpardonable sin. The gospel of Jesus Christ can free any sinner from any sin and God has proved that through many, many people.
Genetic? Yes, we got it from Adam!

Rick,
I was going to post this link in my original article, but I decided against it. Anyway, Scot McKnight put this letter up on his blog from a man who struggled with homosexuality for a while, and is now experiencing freedom through Christ. It’s quite refreshing because of it’s openess.

A good letter, Phil. When we have never struggled with a specific sin we claim a saved person cannot have those feelings. Like the cutters I referenced, we underestimate the power of sin and the love and support and prayer it sometimes takes to help a brother out of the ditch. We never want to be accused of condoning so we make sure people know we believe it is a sin! So when a person is born a hermaphrodite which did he/she choose?
And some of the easy panaceas for overcoming those sins in the conservative realm are these:
1. Stop that!
2. Get saved!
3. Say these three verses!
4. Go to another church!
There, done and done!(As we wipe our hands like Pilate)
