Insert Meaning Here [__________________]

It’s not CRN, Slice 2.0, or even a blog site for that matter… but the folks over at the Rapture Ready Bulletin Board are, for the most part in complete agreement with the aforementioned watchblogs.

Sometimes they make a good point, but most times they do this -take something like a Lava Lamp prayer and pour external meaning into it.  In this way they can attack new things while seeing fulfilled prophecy at the same time – remember, it’s all part of the end-times falling away.

    The Rapture Ready Bulletin board?

    Whaaa?

  2. Henry (Rick) Frueh Says:

    The Tribulation Sewing Kit.

  3. Ken Silva Says:

Yeah, and the moderator of the Rapture Ready Bulletin Board once drove by Dr. John MacArthur’s church and MacArthur is mentioned on CRN so obviously both of them must be also “for the most part in complete agreement with the aforementioned watchblogs.”

If I might quote CRN.Info?’s resident theologian, iggy, “LOL!” Welcome to the wonderful world of guilt by association boys… :-)

    Neil,
Lava lamp as “mediator” — well, maybe that was jumping to a conclusion. But, maybe not. After all, if man wrote scripture surely he can also determine what is and isn’t a mediator. Maybe the lava lamp should just be what it is for each individual, and if some see it as mediator, well, why not?

Just what kind of “meaning” does this lava lamp have? Who is being prayed to? The Jesus Man of scripture written by man? The one not necessarily born of a virgin? The one who wants to bring everyone together under the banner of love?

Whatever the “lava lamp” really is, or means, unless the “reflection” below is an exception, the emerging church website is a place of darkness.

I didn’t know “reflections” were possible without light.

Maybe somebody can attach the site to my post and take off the “write it down . . .” part which got left on when I cut and pasted. Sorry about that.

  6. Henry (Rick) Frueh Says:

Amy - who was that guy? Here is a juicy little faith builder from that article:

“After all, was it not ancient man not God that wrote the scriptures?”

Let us drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die!

  7. Neil Says:

    Ken,

I’m not sure how you got gba from my post. They are not guilty because they associate with anyone. They are “guilty” because they inserted their own meanings into something so to attack it.

    Thanks for the comments

All that aside. No where on the lava lamp pages do they talk about other mediators, or repetitions, or anything you suggested either - all that must be inserted before finding fault.

    Amy,

When I edited your comments (I didn’t know I could do that) I also took out the link. Here it is if someone wants to follow it: http://www.emergingchurch.info/reflection/michaeledward/index.htm

Let me know if that is not satisfactory - don’t want you misrepresented.

  10. Neil Says:

    Amy,

I agree, this guy has gone way too far - problem is, no one brought that up in their opposition - instead they just inserted meaning they could oppose.

    Neil

  11. amy Says:

    Rick,
I posted the link but it didn’t work.

    Neil,
Why don’t you post the other article that was discussed on Rapture Ready? There would be no “insertions” necessary to find fault.

  12. Neil Says:

    Amy,

    Which article?

I cleaned up your post - is it OK now?

    Neil

  13. Julie Says:

I would buy the Tribulation Sewing Kit.

  14. Neil Says:

I would buy the Tribulation Sewing Kit.

If you are rapture ready you won’t need it… but out of curiosity, what’s in it?

    Neil

  15. amy Says:

    Neil,
    Thanks for posting the link.

The article was brought up in the discussion on Rapture Ready about the lava lamp. I don’t know how representative this article is of people who write on the emerging church website as I haven’t read it very often. I just think that, if this is the basic belief system represented, then let’s beware of anything they’re doing, including lava lamps. Why should we assume that the meaning of lava lamps is something “biblical” or at least “not unbiblical” if in fact “biblical” isn’t a value in the first place?

The way the guy reinvented God I don’t know why people would want to pray to Him anyway, with or without lava lamp assistance.

  16. Julie Says:

    I really, really hope it’s a joke.

Something that is not a joke:

    The Jesus-scented candle.

Except that it is a joke.

  17. Julie Says:

OK — I thought you asked what it was, Neil, and not what was in it. Sorry.

I’m not sure, but I’m guessing the needles have really, really small eyes.

  18. Henry (Rick) Frueh Says:

The kit contains six needles, six spools of thread, and six forehead patches.

All products are under warranty for seven years, or if you like the smaller version, three and one half years. Happy sewing!

  19. Neil Says:

    Amy,

I agree the guy’s gone too far. I didn’t include that article in my original post because it was not part of the thread yet. It was not until someone challenged the idea that someone else came up with that article.

Point is, the site maybe completely apostate, but they did not address the actual content. It was the shoddy methodology, lazy and looking for someone to pick on i would guess, that I was addressing.

    Neil

Just for the record - is your first post, as edited, acceptable?

  20. Neil Says:

    Very good Rick… very good.

  21. phil Says:

For the record, I think lava lamps are, at the very least, the epitome of coolness. I prefer the real ones rather than virtual substitutes, though.

  22. Julie Says:

Point of interest regarding the hijacking of this thread and the tribulation sewing kit: if, as per Rick’s statement, the items are under warranty, will the person backing up the warranty still be around to make good on the promise? And, if they are, can they be trusted not to reveal the forehead patches?

  23. Ken Silva Says:

“shoddy methodology, lazy and looking for someone to pick on”

Ah, you mean like this particular post itself?

  24. amy Says:

    Neil,
The post you fixed along with the link later posted is fine.

  25. nathan Says:

oh yeah… that’s us for sure. Always just looking thru the internet to pick on someone. hahaha.

    http://christianresearchnetwork.com/?p=2250

    need I say more?

  26. Neil Says:

    Ken,

Again, I’m not sure why the hostility when the post was not directed at you… but anger seems to be your normal tone.

Anyway, would you kindly elucidate on how my original post employed laziness and/or shoddy methodology?

I simply pointed to a BB thread that showed people inserting meanings into someone else’s words with the apparent purpose of condemning it.

    Neil

  27. phil Says:

Some of the posters on that board make Jack Van Impe look reasonable.

I grew up around those sorts of people. Honestly, I was deathly afraid of the Rapture when I was a little kid. I mean, what if I missed it? It seems people are willing to insert prophetic signifigance into anything. It’s not that those people are necessarily bad, but I think they sometimes don’t complete grasp the whole impact of their belief system.

  28. Houston John Says:

Forget the lava lamp check out Lavalamps article on The Burning Man:

Burning Man Festival as Life-Enhancing, Post-Christendom ‘Middle Way’

Now there’s fodder for the cannon!

  29. Henry (Rick) Frueh Says:

Lava lamp. When we used it way back when and without Christ there was always an ingredient to complete the ambiance. Maybe I am being drawn to the Rustaferians?
